There have been a handful of Chrstian metal bands that emerged in the 80's that played quality metal, Barraen Cross being one of these amazing bands. The mid 80's saw the assault of Barren Cross's "Rock for the King" and the U.S. power metal classic "Atomic Arena". Barren cross overlaid some of the best formulas; Iron maiden-ish vocal melodies, a speed/thrash metal guitar attack and extordinary interplay of rhythms between the bass and drums. The band released "State of Control" in 1989, and with this album brought out a stronger and more mature song writing formula. The album also introduced the world to the song "The Stage of Intensity" which featured what most metal fans sight as having the first 'acoustic thrash' riff. Following the album a year latter was the live release "Hotter than Hell". It would be nearly four years before Barren Cross would return with the more commercialy oreinted/laid back "Rattle Your Cage". After the the album came out it almost seemed the band when into submission as they were never heard from again. Many fans think it's the fact of the band being gone for to long or the less-than-productive final album was what closed their chapel doors. The resurection of this mighty American metal band as well as return to their roots is what many die-hard Barren Cross fans have been praying for for years now.
The band reformed in May 2008.
