Band: Primus
Primus have a very distinctive style. It's almost an amalgamation of funk, jazz fusion, metal, and comedy. Best known for the intricate, quirky bass stylings of Less Claypool, Primus quickly became popular with songs like "Jerry Was a Racecar Driver". Their popularity faded as they ventured into more experimental territory, but they continued to push the boundaries of music.
After "Tales From the Punchbowl", drummer Tim Alexander parted ways with the band, citing a disagreement about the musical direction of the band. The next few releases weren't quite the same without him, but new drummer Brian Manta did an adequate job filling some pretty big shoes.
After 1999's Antipop, the band briefly broke up, only to reform in 2003 with original drummer Tim Alexander behind the kit. The DVD/EP set "Animals Should Not Act Like People" was released soon thereafter.
