Symphony X are home to one of the best guitarists in the world, Michael Romeo. Their tight blend of prog metal and neoclassical shred has garnered them many fans worldwide, and deservedly so. The band really hit their stride with "Divine Wings" and continued to improve on each release. "The Odyssey" sees them toning down the power metal influences and bringing forward a little bit of thrashy aggression, which works well despite a bad mix on the drums. Fans of progressive metal, neoclassical, or perhaps even Euro power metal (since it is a significant influence) should enjoy Symphony X. Also of note is singer Russell Allen who has one of the best melodic voices in progressive metal.

Recently they announced plans to completely re-record the debut CD with Russell Allen on vocals, which should improve it drastically. Look for it late 2003 or early 2004.
