Home Page:

Opeth is one of the best bands of any kind in the world today. Their material is breathtaking in scope, arrangements are elaborate without being overly technical, moving from crushing death metal to quiet, introspective acoustic passages and back again with incredible ease. Some have argued they peaked as long ago as Morningrise but in truth it's probably Blackwater Park that currently stands as the true testament to the band's vision. Deliverance and Damnation are companion pieces, seperately featuring the different sides of Opeth's music. Damnation helped to make them a worldwide name and Opeth is now one of the world's major metal acts.

The name Opeth was taken from the novel Sunbird by author Wilbur Smith, and was originally spelled Opet (without the h). In the book, Opet is the name of the location for an ancient empire which translates to City of the Moon.
