Cloven Hoof was one of the better and more interesting of the NWOBHM crowd. They cultivated a wild stage image early that featured make-up and outlandish costumes while their music was considerably darker than most other acts of the time. They ditched the stage names and guises later but never really elevated beyond the second tier.
The band reformed in 2003.
