Band: Deicide

Deicide helped to really popularise death metal in the early 1990s. Benton's status as an affirmed Satanist helped their cause, as did the first two albums, the second of which, 'Legion' is still one of the most punishing and evil death metal releases of all time. Since 'Serpents of the Light' however Deicide has seemed content to merely run over old ground and the band's determination to write about nothing but Satanism and condemning Christianity became tired even before 'Once Upon a Cross'. 

A long-standing feud with Roadrunner Record saw Deicide's recording output stagnate; the 'comeback' for Earache was only marginally better. Then on November 25, 2004 the Hoffman brothers were fired. The 2006 album is perhaps the most inspired Deicide album in a decade.

For pure aggressive and hate-filled death metal one could not do much better than seeking out Deicide.
