Cryptopsy represented perhaps the last word in technical brutal death metal; certainly None So Vile is an outstanding release that inspired a wealth of bands. Mounier's drumming is a definite highlight of the band's music, which, while exceptional, has developed a tendency towards being technical merely for the sake of being technical. After Once Was Not the band changed singers again, added a keyboards player and changed their style to a simplified form of deathcore.
