Control Denied are the 2nd incarnation of Death. Chuck Schuldiner (RIP) was adamant in stating that they were not a side project, but rather an evolution of the Death sound. Focusing instead on more traditional vocals, provided to good effect by Tim Aymar. The music is outstanding technical metal, IMO better than anything put out by Death, but the vocals can be rather grating. Most of the time, they are very melodic, but occassionally they become the annoying high-pitched wailing of 80's hair band fame.

The sophomore effort "When Machine and Man Collide" (or something similar to that) was supposed to receive a posthumous release, since all of Chuck's parts were recorded prior to his passing. The family and record label bickered over money until the label finally decided to release the unfinished tunes, with some live Death songs in a half-assed compilation to attempt to recover some of the money they lost on the recording. It's sad, and I fear that we'll never see the finished recordings that the remaining band promised to complete.
