Darkthrone is easily one of the best known black metal bands of all, with the four albums from A Blaze in the Northern Sky through to Panzerfaust featuring some of the rawest and most terrifying music of its kind ever created. Previously to 1992, however, Darkthrone played seriously brutal and technical death metal. Soulside Journey is quite possibly one of the best death metal albums ever made.
Since The Cult is Alive, Darkthrone's music has taken on a punkish, old-school bent.
As innovators of the two most prevalent forms of extreme music of the last 20 years, Darkthrone ranks among the true legends of metal.
