Formerly known as Mary-Ann. In 1999 they signed with Spinefarm and later changed their name to To/Die/For, not only that, but also their style. To/Die/For took a vampiric turn and became to be one of the most important goth metal acts coming out of Finland.

After the release of "Jaded" in 2003, Jape left to form his own band Tiaga, along side with ex HIM keyboardist Juska Salminen. Meanwhile, the remaining members of To/Die/For (Joonas "Jope" Koto, Marko Kangaskolkka and Tonmi Lillman) were looking for a new singer. When Jape gave Spinefarm his demo, Spinefarm had a better idea. Being Jape considered as the front band of To/Die/For, Spinefarm suggested him to register the band name To/Die/For to himself first. Jape agreed and with a new lineup, To/Die/For recorded "IV". The remaining members later formed HateFrame, a thrash metal band.

The band has suffered numerous lineup changes but still never left out their unique style.
