Asrai started out in 1985 by the name of Twins No Twins. After some lineup changes, the remaning members, Margriet and Karin (sisters), decided to take on a new beginning. In 1987 they changed the band name to Asrai, which means small, fragile, female beings who turn into a puddle of water when they are captured or exposed to sunlight, this makes 'em unreachable.
They released some demos and were part on some compilations but it was until 1997 when they released their first album, "As Voices Speak". Their second album, "Touch in the Dark", was their most succesful. Having Sascha Paeth has the producer and Amanda Sommerville (Kamelot, Aina) has Margriet's singing coach, it was a very good release and recommended for all goth metal fans.
The music is goth/ rock metal, sometimes it gets a little "commercial", you know, songs you would listen on the radio but apart from that, very talented band. The lineup consists of three females (singer, drummer and keyboard player).
