Band: X-Japan

Location:
Status:

Originally known as Noise, then simply as X until 1991 when they became X-Japan to avoid confusion with the US hardcore band, this group fostered an over-the-top glam image while playing a typically Japanese style of metal with outstanding guitar playing from Matsumoto. They were huge in Japan as one of the most prominent members of the Visual Kei movement but their look got them nowhere outside their home country and they eventually disbanded in 1997. Matsumoto tragically hanged himself on 2 May, 1998.

In 2007, the band announced a reformation tour, with guest musicians standing in for Matsumoto.
