Band: Van Halen

Like Kiss, Van Halen is perhaps better defined as a party rock band than heavy metal although their flamboyant style helped paved the way for glam and sleaze in the 80s. Eddie Van Halen's unique guitar playing redefined the art and the band was a massive influence on metal and heavy rock in the 80s. 1984 made them massive worldwide superstars and even after the acrimonious departure of Roth their status continued across the next three albums. When Hagar also left under similar circumstances, Van Halen attempted to continue with Cherone but the association was disastrous. Reunions with both Roth and Hagar at different times have occured; most recently Anthony was shed in favour of Eddie's son Wolfgang.
