Jason Becker is a shred guitar virtuoso. His first band was formed with Marty Friedman called “Cacophony”. They created two albums “Speed Metal Symphony” and “Go Off!” before disbanding. After this he released an instrumental shred album called “Perpetual Burn”, and played as a guest musician on Marty Friedman’s “Dragons Kiss”. A year later he joined David Lee Roth’s back-up band replacing Steve Vai. He later he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), which crippled and paralyzed his body hindering his ability to play guitar. Although his ability to play guitar was destroyed, he was able to compose “Perspective” using a Macintosh computer. His last album was a bit of a change from the shred fest on “Perpetual Burn”, experimenting with many musical styles outside of metal. Many have considered it a great tragedy for such a legendary player to have his playing taken away. He is slowly recovering from this disease, something his doctors said would never happen.
