Evereve's debut is a fine goth metal CD, though unlike many of their peers, they utilize only male vocals, provided by the wonderful Tom Sedotschenko. He utilizes a variety of approaches from clean singing to spoken word to near-death metal growling, each to great effect. They then followed up that excellent release with the masterpiece "Stormbirds", which is, simply put, the best gothic metal CD in existence (and one of my top 10 of all time in any genre). Sadly, between it and "Regret", Tom was fired from the band and ultimately took his own life. While any suicide is a sad event, Tom will be especially mixed for his amazing vocal talent and songwriting influence on the band's only excellent material. After that, Evereve decided to incorporate an electronica/dance sound into their material. I hate to use the word "sellout", but this is an obvious example of one, as the band has said they wanted to get more airtime in dance clubs. "Regret" is still a decent release, but "E-Mania" is a complete departure from metal, and an unenjoyable one at that. I believe they have a new CD out, but since their website is down, I haven't found any useful information about it. I'm guessing it's more in the vein of E-Mania, but we can always hope for a return to form.
