Band: Maudlin of the Well

Maudlin play ambient death metal mixed with some elements of black and doom. While they don't sound like any band in particular, there are elements of bands like Neurosis, Opeth, Green Carnation, and others. A myriad of influences could be cited, but you truly have to hear this band to get a feel for them. Those who are into slowly-developed layered soundscapes will find much to enjoy here. And while that is the focus, there are times of intense, aggressive death metal. At times, I even hear some hardcore elements. Truly an interesting and diverse group.

Recently the band announced it's departure from Dark Symphonies and shift in musical direction away from metal. I imagine they will continue to produce interesting, avant-garde music. They have reformed as Kayo Dot.
