After Cynic broke up, several of the band members moved to California and formed Portal. The music here is very far removed from Cynic, in fact it isn't even metal. I only included this band here to give an idea of what the Cynic members went on to do. While it isn't metal, the music is quite good. It combines an almost new age prog rock sound with beautiful female vocals and spiritually focused lyrics. I've only heard the few songs I could track down online, but there are talks of re-releasing the demo soon as a regular release.
