Atmospheric metal with very beautiful female vocals. Newer albums aren't really metal anymore, but they're still good. "Mandylion" (1995) is my own personal favorite.

In June 2007, lead vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen announced she had decided to leave the band, effective August of 2007.  The band plans to carry on with a new vocalist.
