Napalm Death is one of the most important British metal bands of all. The band's style has changed often of the course of its long career but for the most part has always remained relevant and extreme. Napalm Death started as a punk band in 1982 and began issuing short-run tapes and demo through the North England hardcore underground. By 1986, their grindcore style had fully  developed. Scum is a compilation featuring songs by two different line-ups, an earlier one including Justin Broadrick and the classic membership of Steer, Harris and Dorrian. After Dorrian departed to form Cathedral, Napalm Death started to take on more death metal aspects, culminating in the late 90s albums like Inside the Torn Apart. Less considered than earlier works, Napalm Death has since turned back to a more grinding style that has seen a return to form, beginning with The Code is Red... and continuing with the latest album.

Jesse Pintado died on diabetic complications on August 27, 2006.
