Helmet's music isn't actually metal but their extremely militaristic style of hardcore has had a strong appeal to sections of the metal audience. Meantime in particular had an enormous influence in the first half of the 90s. Helmet split with the departure of Hamilton in 1998, but reformed in 2004.
