With its links to classic European metal bands like Carcass, Candlemass, Mercyful Fate and In Flames, it comes as no surprise that Arch Enemy is now one of the most popular metal bands of the modern era. All of their early albums are of high quality but with the inclusion of Gossow in the line-up Arch Enemy stepped up a level into a truly world-class band with Wages of Sin featuring excellent songs and a combination of breaktaking musicianship, stunning melody, incredible hooks and a vocal assault second to none. Since then, however, Arch Enemy hasn't quite lived up to that achievement.

Chris Amott left briefly in 2006 but rejoined in early 2007.
