This band is one that truly lives up to it's name. What once started out as a death metal band in the early 90's began to slowly change and by the end of the century had moved into a more progressive/folk sound and even enlisted vocalist Pasi Koskinen; losing the death growls for a more cleaner and melodic approach. There landmark 1995 album "Elegy" has already been considered a classic from fans of death metal all the way up to progressive rock. Amorphis has proven to be one of the most creative forces in metal by taking from several styles of music and bringing it to a boil in one big musical metlingpot of metal.
