Atrophy is one of a handful of thrash metal bands to come out Arizona. This bands debut release "Socialized Hate" brought attention to the metal masses in 88', showing they could thrash it up just as good as any other band out there if not better. This album had some of their classic tunes including the party anthem "Beer Bong". 1990 saw the band take more direct and heavier approach with "Violent by Nature" and tour in the U.S. with fellow thrashers Forced Entry & Sacred Riech. "Violent by Nature" was one of the most underated thrash albums and will seem fresh and new to those who have not had the benifit to spin this classic album before! It wasn't too long after that that the band seem to disolve away, and also saw founder/guitarist Chris Lykins leave to attend medical school. Atrpohy literaly disappeared in the Arizona desert until a few years back (1999) when it was rumored that some of the members including guitarist Rick Skowron and, bassit James Gulotta and drummer Tim Kelly were playing around the state again with a new vocalist, but nothing concrete ever seemed to surface. If there was any classic thrash band that should have never called it quits....it's Atrophy, they were definitly the new titans on the block.
