Bands By Genre: Gothic Metal: Page 1
Gothic Metal evolved from Gothic Rock. There's a link to Doom Metal, in that the lyrics are often depressing, and some bands tread the line between the genres quite closely (like The Third and the Mortal). Gothic Metal bands commonly employ melodic female vocalists to help convey the emotion behind their music. And many dually employ a death metal growling vocalist as well, creating the "Beauty and the Beast" sound that probably deserves its own sub-genre (think early Lacuna Coil, The Gathering, and Within Temptation).
