Bands By Genre: European Power Metal: Page 3
When bands like Helloween and Blind Guardian took Speed Metal and combined it with an Epic Metal sound, they were referred to as "Power Metal". Since American bands like Sanctuary already had that genre name, the American and European sub-genres emerged. There's a heavy focus on sounding big and epic, with extremely repetitive use of double bass drumming and fast riffing. Vocals are high-pitched melodic wailing. Many bands in this genre go totally overboard with the grandiosity and cheesiness (like Rhapsody).
