I have been involved in the underground metal scene in Australia since the mid-1980s, as a fan, band manager, promoter and critic and writer. I have published the print zine 'LOUD!' since early 1996 and March 2002 saw my book 'The Australian Metal Guide' appear in print for the first time. That book has now entered its fifth edition as of November 2005. Over the years I have written about metal for various magazines and websites. I also host a metal/heavy rock programme from a radio station in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. In May 2004 I became the proprietor of the Metal merchandise website PureMetalWear.com.

I've been a metal fan since I was 11 (when I discovered Anthrax). For the rest of my teenage years, I listened primarily to thrash, but also a little death metal and American power metal. After I got older, I got into prog, tech, goth, and doom metal, and even some metalcore and a very few European power metal bands. Black metal still eludes me; I find it totally unlistenable. But, there's plenty of black metal fans on the staff, so they'll fill you in. My primary interests lie in the avant-garde bands that are unique and defy proper genre categorization, although I'm still up for a good headbanging thrash song, too.

I owe a great deal to The BNR Metal Pages, which served as both a catalyst to me expanding my horizons, and as an inspiration in creating this site. I created this site to be a complete resource for people who wish to learn more about metal or just find a few new bands to listen to, and also as a resource to collectors who might be interested in finding releases of which they were unaware.

Over the years, I've discovered that trying to administrate the site, work on new features, and do my own part to build the database is too much. So, in late 2005, I handed over the admin duties to Goreripper so I could focus more on programming. Since then, things have picked up again, and that's excellent.

Although I have lived in Australia for more than 10 years now, I was born in Cuba in 1971, where I grew up listening to any music I could get my hands on, not only metal but hard rock, symphonic, heavy, power, thrash, doom, etc. Eventually, I found out that I enjoyed more bands that were either unique in style or very technical, and got into all kinds of prog and technical music.

Working on this site has allowed me to share some of those bands with the rest of the world and, at the same time, learn from other contributors about groups and musicians I was not even aware of. This is an awesome thing to be involved in.

I hail from Killeen/Fort Hood, Texas USA. I began playing guitar at the age of fifteen, and play many other instruments as well, specifically focused on keyboard (synth). I am also an educator of music and music theory.

I have a heart made of steel and cast in iron, ready to defend metal in a valiant effort to preserve its sacred essence. I am into most all styles of metal from death and Viking metal all the way to my preferred style, power metal.

My favourite musicians of all time are Lance King, Vitalij Kuprij, Jon Schaffer, Michael Romeo, Mathew Barlow, Richard Andersson, Jens Johansson, John West, Jani Liimatainen, Pasi Hiltula, Timo Kotipelto, and Jordan Rudess. They help to pave a path for the continued development of my musical mind, and provide musical (and sometimes personal) support and guidance. Nothing can eclipse my appreciation for the contributions of such talented and dedicated musicians.

Aside from metal, I contribute to the world by teaching music and theory to people of all ages, from middle school band students to middle-aged aspiring musicians. Of course I practice my instruments often, particularly keyboards and a bit of guitar. I spend the rest of my free time upgrading and riding my Suzuki GSX-R1000K7 motourbike. I study linguistics daily, and speak Spanish, Swedish, English, and unemployed bits and pieces of other languages. I work in federal law enforcement (aviation sector) and also own a computer business which I run part-time.

If there is any way that I may be able to help you, please contact me.
