Bands By Genre: American Power Metal: Page 1
From my understanding this was the original "Power Metal" sound, but when European speed metal bands expanded their sound and were referred to as "Power Metal" as well, the American and European sub-genres emerged. While the European Power Metal is based in speed metal, American Power Metal is based in thrash. But, unlike thrash, it's less frenetic and more plodding, hence the "power" title. Sanctuary, Iced Earth, and Jag Panzer are probably the most notable bands that play this style.
