Death & Taxe$ debut is an excellent technical thrash effort, one of the best I've heard (I even like the indie-sounding production, it works with the material). After a 5 year wait, they finally followed up their excellent debut with the more avant-garde release "Theenigmathatisman". It's more eclectic but not as aggressive. Both releases are excellent, but I have to lean to the debut as my favorite (can't help it, I grew up on thrash). Some I've shared them with have stated a dislike for the vocals, which aren't great, but IMO work in the material. Definitely for adventurous listeners and definitely worth your time.
Sadly, founding member Tom Shannon passed away in 2002, leaving the future of the band uncertain. In his honor, the remaining band have completed, with the help of some guests, the last songs written by Shannon, including some parts he recorded before his passing. The band will likely continue in a similar vein, but a name change is a possibility. Only time will tell.
If you go to the band's web site, there is information about making a donation to cancer research in Tom's honor and in exchange for Death & Taxe$ CDs.
